Background: Mike Mastro was stationed in the South Pacific and was part of the Philippian Liberation for which he received a purple heart medal. While he was fighting in the South Pacific, he was wounded twice which earned him the purple heart medal. As a purple heart veteran, he participated in all of the Wellesley Memorial Day parades. He was interviewed by the Townsman newspaper for an article published in the June 1, 2000 edition.
