John Brown

Distinguished Service Award

Wellesley has a deep belief in our public schools and their mission – to build the mind and character of every child, of every background, in every community of our town. We have the finest teachers.

And today we are proud to honor one of the best. The Wellesley Celebrations Committee, a standing committee of the Select Board, Town of Wellesley honors John Brown with its Distinguished Service Award.

John is finishing his 26th year in the Wellesley Public Schools. He started as a TV/Video Teacher in the Fall of 2000 helping to build a program that encompassed a wide range of diverse students from grades 9-12. In 2006 John became the Director of Athletics for Wellesley Public Schools where the programs have had tremendous success.

Over John’s 20 years as the Athletic Director, there have been thousands of participants in the Athletic Program, hundreds of League Championships, dozens of Sportsmanship Awards, 5 Boston Globe Scholastic Awards for the best winning percentage and 47 State Championships. John will be retiring this Fall and has loved his time here.

John Brown has made our schools winners, and he has done so much but to shape character. We thank him for a job well done.
