“All dreams can come through if we have the courage to pursue them.” — Walt Disney
When teenager Mara Nuon came to America, he carried in his heart a message of hope and renewal. He knew the American dream was for him.
Escaping the violence and brutality of the Cambodian killing fields to Wellesley is an amazing story of courage. But it’s also a story of ideals and compassion, family love and moral courage.
Now just 30 years later we all enjoy the gourmet treats of the Wellesley Bakery.
Today he gets some well-deserved recognition. The Wellesley Celebrations Committee, a standing committee of the Select Board, Town of Wellesley honors the Wellesley Bakery with a Special Recognition Award.
Mara credits his customers for their support, and his family for their determination to make their dreams come through. Mara hopes his children Luke (11) and Bella (9) will choose to go to college. He says, “School develops the mind, the thinking, and helps with becoming a productive member of society.”
Wellesley Bakery is at 542 Washington St, Wellesley Square and boasts a delightful menu: Croissants, scones, cookies, and other baked goods, along with soups, sandwiches, salads and more.
We are blessed Mara Nuon came here. America opened the gates of opportunity. And welcomed his family into the full promise of American life. Wellesley is a better place for their presence.
